Times Open everyday of the year with the exception of Thanksgiving, Christmas Day and New Year's Day

October 1st through March 31st - Essential work may require closing areas without notice
Museum Store A wide variety of gifts, jewelry, postcards, and books relating to the cable car system are available in the Museum Store, open during museum operating hours.

Photography  Photography is permitted for personal use only using hand-held camera or video camera. The use of any other equipment and/or photography for commercial purposes must be arranged in advance with the museum management
Rest Rooms  Rest rooms are located at both ends of the hallway in Gallery B, near the rear entrance of the Museum.
Access A ramp leading from the outside of the building to the rear entrance of the museum is provided for disabled visitors.  Museum staff will give additional assistance if requested.

Cable Cars:

Powell-Mason and Powell-Hyde cars stop at the Museum.

California Street cars stop at Mason Street, within three blocks.


MUNI lines 1, 12, 30, 45 stop within two blocks.

Street parking is very limited!

MUNI "passport" tickets can be used to ride the cable cars as well as the entire MUNI system, including the heritage "F Market-Wharfs" street car.  "Passport" tickets are one-day, three-day and seven-day tickets. You can buy a one-day passport from any cable car conductor. Ride the cable cars all day and visit the Museum for one low fare!
